Foreign Language Placement Testing at WVU

The on-line multiple choice placement tests can give you up to 15 hours of credit for one successfully completed course in French, German, or Spanish. See this chart for a summary of the information below. You may also download the Application for Free Credit by Placement and Course Completion Form.

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENT: You MUST TAKE the placement test If you have studied the language in question within five (5) years prior to course enrollment. You NEED NOT take the test if you have not studied the language in the last five years or if you enroll in a language you have not studied before.

1REMEMBER: You MUST take the course you are placed into?and make a grade of ?B? or ?A?? in order to receive tuition-free credit for lower-level language courses. After completing the course, you will need to complete a form for back credit; this form is available in the Department of Foreign Languages, Chitwood Hall.

If you believe your placement is too low (for example, if you are placed in 102 and believe you can perform well in 203), you may enroll in a class one level above your placement level. If you wish to be placed higher, please see an advisor in the Department of Foreign Languages.
